100% Rockwell Automation / Allen Bradley Checkweighers Enter the In-Motion Scale Market

100% Rockwell Automation / Allen Bradley Checkweighers Enter the In-Motion Scale Market

AP Dataweigh, Inc. (USA) - AP Dataweigh, Inc. is proud to announce that it has achieved a significant milestone by being the first in-motion scale manufacturer to offer 100% native Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation communication and controls.

“This represents a huge leap forward in the technology of in-motion checkweighers,” said Steve Van Duzen, Senior VP of Sales for AP Dataweigh at the Modex Conference in Atlanta GA. “This technology is the direct result of a close cooperation between us as an OEM, Rockwell Automation and Hardy Process Solutions, our weighing solution partner.”

Many American manufacturers depend on Rockwell Automation solutions to communicate with and control process and manufacturing operations across practically every industry imaginable. Until now, the checkweighing part of the manufacturing or packaging process was limited to single direction communications with Allen Bradley equipped production lines which seriously limited reporting, communication and control capabilities.

In addition to the added reporting capabilities, the Allen Bradley based checkweighers also allow for product / recipe setup without having to shut down or stop the production line resulting in a direct impact on lowering operating costs. Operators or management can set parameters for upcoming production runs while other runs are continually in motion and activate them on demand. In addition, this allows for real time statistical data which can be used in conjunction with the extensive reporting features across the entirety of an Allen Bradley based network.

“All of these benefits are a necessity in today’s competitive production environment,” said Van Duzen. “Whether it is a snack food manufacturing giant, industrial bakery, or a smaller tier automotive supplier, the effects on the Operational Efficiency of all equipment connected into the Ethernet / IP network benefit greatly just from the reporting and statistical capture capabilities alone,” he continued. “The fact that AP Dataweigh latest product inspection systems now offer a totally open architecture, that is not a black box solution and is designed around off-the-shelf components, exponentially increases savings and OEE. Customers can purchase spare parts and replacement components from their local suppliers, as opposed to relying on the OEM to supply them. Resulting in shorter lead times, a reduction of part acquisition costs and a decrease in overall operational costs,” said Rodger Jeffery, Director of Marketing & Business Development for Hardy Process Solutions.

Kept under wraps for almost two years in engineering, the first 100% Native Allen Bradley checkweighers were delivered with Fortress Technology metal detection systems on the robust Hardy Solutions weigh platform bundles.

“By launching our product with additional process technologies integrated on-board as opposed to just in-motion weighing, we are able to demonstrate the versatility of the system to our customer immediately,” said Ron DeBiaso, engineering manager for AP Dataweigh. “We started with dynamic metal detection, and have since added modules for RFID, print and apply, barcode scanning, dimensioning, vision systems and more,” he concluded.

When asked to summarize what this technology means for manufacturers and packaging operations at the Rockwell Automation On the Move event, Van Duzen commented that “We want our customers to innovate, learn and grow with our product, not be locked in by communication handicapped black box software that is expensive to modify, customize, troubleshoot and operate.
