Aja Ltd. (UK) - Aja have now delivered several new ‘profit saving’ weigh packing systems to UK tomato packer major UK Supermarkets. Aja weighing solutions have now become the preferred choice for many of the major pre pack produce & veg Packhouses in the UK.

Packing half vine tomato to fixed weight with maximum efficiency and accuracy but with minimum Give Away & Waste is particularly challenging due to the difficulty of matching and combining half vines to tight specifications. Plus flexibility and portability are invaribale critical factors.



Constant re-adjustment of the vines or snipping to get the best weight along with over packing whether to Average or Nett Minimum Weight is a common problem, directly impacting on overall profitability.

For dedicated half vine tomato packing operations with a level of automation to minimise labour and speed up the operation the Aja TDW Selector Multihead Scale takes away the guessing and juggling of pieces to achieve best weight and minimum give away and waste while significantly adding a level of efficiency and speed to the operation.

Based on a standard multihead weigher concept the TDW Selector scale has 12 weigh pans. While one operator feeds the pans with single vines the TDW calculates the best combination of vines closest to the target weight, then activates LED’s telling the second operator which ones make the weight and are to be removed to make the pack. Once removed the process is repeated. The calculation is virtually instant and good operators can pack from between 10 to 14 packs per minute with Give Away typically as low as 0.1%. The TDW Selector Scale features Average Weight software to pack to T1 offering even greater savings.

In a typical packhouse there may be 4, 6 or more TDW’s in use which can be networked with Aja’s OPUS wi fi Average Weight software to give management complete control of the packing operation with real time data on operator speed and give away. This data can be displayed on a large KPI screen for all to see.

In pack-houses where more flexibility is required and there is a requirement to pack loose as well as vine tomatoes there may be a need for manual check weighing. For loose tomatoes Aja offers the DPWS Weighstation Scale again with OPUS Wi Fi networked Average Weight software.





The DPWS is a custom designed scale/workstation to optimise operator efficiency and product handling. Using standard weighing and operator interface modules the Aja team design a workstation to fit into any pack-house operation.

Operators are rapidly guided through each weighing operation by a simple traffic light bar graph system. The OPUS software with automatic pack weight optimising ‘PWO’ works continually in the background adjusting individual scale target weights to ensure minimum give away while remaining legal over a given production run or batch. OPUS is constantly pulling the average pack weight close to the declared weight. Operators are monitored in real time for speed and accuracy and any errors or overweighing’s are flagged up by a series of alarms at the PC. Typical Give Away can be as low as 0.1% depending on piece size. Plus ppm is optimised using best practice designed weighing-packing station. As with the TDW Selector scale installing a KPI wall display adds further controls for management.
