Market Drives Grundon’s New Bin Weighing Fleet

Market Drives Grundon’s New Bin Weighing Fleet

Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (UK) – The UK’s largest privately owned waste management company, Grundon, has installed ENVIROWEIGH bin weighing systems from Vehicle Weighing Systems Ltd (VWS) to 21 of its latest fleet of trade waste and Front End Loader collection vehicles.

Stephen Townsend, Group Fleet Engineer explains: “Increasingly, customers are stipulating bin-weighing on tender specifications, so this is a direct response to market demand.”

The new bin-weigh ready fleet comprises: 14 x 26 tonne DAF FAG; 2 x 26 tonne DAF FAD, fitted with a mix of the Heil Powerlink, Geesink GPMIII and RL300 with Pod (MF50); 1 x DAF FA LF 16 tonne with NTM Trade Waste; and 4 x 32 tonne Volvo FM B Rides with Euro Half Pack Front End Loader bodies from Heil, which will operate across Grundon’s depots in the UK.

Stephen continued: “Bin-weighing offers significant benefits for us as a business. The ENVIROWEIGH system is highly accurate and because it is ‘weights and measures approved’ it can be used for pay-for-weight services. It can also be installed onto all makes and models of vehicles. Combined with potential bin tag and chip technology we will have the necessary data to monitor collections closely and help our customers to improve their recycling efficiency, hence reducing landfill tax from residual waste.”

Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) is a market leading British engineering company specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of on-board vehicle weighing, wheeled bin weighing and load protection systems. The new ENVIROWEIGH bin weighing system from VWS is the first truly British dynamic ‘weights and measures approved’ system of its kind, and is taking the market place by storm.

Julian Glasspole, Managing Director, VWS said: “We are delighted that Grundon have chosen us as their weighing partner. Feedback from the market place is showing our system to be the most reliable, adaptable and accurate bin-weighing system available. We’ve developed data collection, storage, transfer and manipulation solutions to suit any IT infrastructure and the system can interface with the latest software, GPS and telemetry technologies for remote monitoring.”

As part of the same contract VWS worked with the Heil factory to engineer the fitment of load cells onto the forks of 4 new Euro Half Pack Front End Loaders, for which VWS built a 45 ft testing ramp to make sure the weighing equipment still functioned accurately, even when the vehicle is operating at extreme gradients.

Stephen Townsend added: “Like Grundon, VWS is a British company and we are keen to support UK manufacturers. We are planning to order another tranche of weighing systems from VWS and look forward to continuing working with them in the future.”
