Bizerba (Germany) - Stationary touchscreens are no longer the be-all and end-all when it comes to system control. Mobile solutions, which enable location-independent monitoring and control of machines and systems by WLAN, are on trend.

Mobile monitoring increases production efficiency:
Modern industrial systems are mainly made up of components which come from a whole host of manufacturers and are controlled from central computers. This restricts the mobility of production managers. "Their work becomes much more effective when they can monitor the production facilities in a location-independent fashion, explains Dieter Conzelmann, Director of Industry Solutions at Bizerba. Here, mobile devices – such as tablet PCs and smartphones – come into play. "They allow production managers to call up the Bizerba _statistics.BRAIN software whilst on their way to work, for instance. Production statistics including the current throughput figures for all the scales, price labellers and inspection systems appear on the display. In this way, production managers can detect problems early on and introduce the right measures while they're on the move. The effectiveness of production as a whole is enhanced as a result of this mobile monitoring."

Tablet PCs for controlling machines in future production worlds:
In many production halls, employees have to cover long distances to configure systems, which costs time. A tablet PC makes it possible to control price labellers, scales and inspection systems via WLAN over a single mobile interface – regardless of how far apart they are located and where production managers are at the present time. All of the display parameters that appear on the permanently installed system display can thus be transferred to the mobile interface. Employees can then switch back and forth between the systems and perform configurations much quicker when changing products, for instance. In the future, Dieter Conzelmann is convinced that the significance of these mobile human-machine interfaces will increase further: "Bizerba is subjecting this technology to intensive research work, such that system control will become even more effective in future production worlds."
